Nijmegen, vrijdag 23 maart 2001. Het onthouden van namen gaat mij tegenwoordig iets moeilijker af dan vóór april 1993. Bart van der Kolk haalde mij gisteravond op de afgesproken tijd af. Bij De Vereeniging hebben wij de heer Jos Buys opgepikt. Jos woont op het Stevenskerkhof en de heren kennen elkaar van het Han Fortmancentrum in Oud Heyendael. In Arnhem bestond de kring uit Gerrit, Chris, Yoyo, Sonna, Ans, Ben van der Meer uit Apeldoorn, Jan, Bart en Jos. Yoyo gaat aanstaande woensdag acht dagen naar Canterbury, hetgeen voor mij aanleiding was het verhaal over mijn Candle in the Wind te vertellen. Ik kreeg daarop dan ook het verzoek de kandelaar met vijf witte kaarsen aan te steken. De 'mijmeravond' had een zeer bijzonder karakter. Ik was met name gecharmeerd van Ans. Vanwege haar ogen en manier van praten. Zij had een zeer positieve inbreng in de groep. Onder meer door een lege stoel uit het gezichtsveld te plaatsen. Inmddels heeft Ben van der Meer zijn voormalige huwelijk ontbonden en een relatie met haar opgebouwd. De avond had verder een spiritueel karakter. Dus geen tijd voor de FC Cervantes. Hierover meldt De Gelderlander van vandaag Nuon wijst Aalbers niet definitief af. Zodra dit probleem is opgelost kan de heer Karel Aalbers wat mij betreft de leiding over de FC Cervantes op zich nemen. De Raad van Toezicht behoudt daarbij dan wel een uitermate belangrijke verantwoordelijkheid, die vanuit de holding dient te worden aangestuurd. Yoyo Olivier is een kunstenares. Zakelijke aangelegenheden kunnen Het Beste door Liesbeth worden afgewikkeld. Dit neemt niet weg dat ik het van uitermate groot belang acht dat zij inmiddels in Canterbury een relatienetwerkje heeft opgebouwd. Ik ben uiteraard het meest bekend bij Dr. Carey, de Archbishop. Ook had ik in augustus 1997 nog contact met een aldaar woonachtige mevrouw uit Moermansk in Rusland. Hiervan heb ik Liesbeth in kennis gesteld. Zij heeft in die tijd nog spontaan bij het Instituto Cervantes Engeland en Wales gesolliciteerd. Ik heb aangenomen dat zij een contact van Diana was. Ik heb haar dienaangaande in die tijd alsvolgt gerapporteerd

Thursday, 31-07-1997. Cancer: 'A perfect day to communicate with people from far away. You may receive good news regarding a number of personal interests. After the fitness I will go to Amsterdam: Intertaal, Paleisstraat 1 and IAS. Back from Amsterdam. At Intertaal I had a phone call with Mr Paul Jansma, the managing director. I told him about the operationalization of the Business Units. I will offer the Spanish editors 'Edelsa' and 'SM' a participation in 'Education and Training'. At Paleisstraat 1 I had a conversation with the girl of the reception and unfolded my plans. She advised me to make an appointment with the PR department in Rotterdam. I will. Then I visited Marks & Spencer in the Kalverstraat and had a rest on a terrace of the Leidseplein. There I read the article on page 23 of The Mirror and saw you in low profile with yellow flowers. I hope you are in your element. I note that you have been the patron for the Parkinson's Desease Society and you have done wonderful jobs. My father also has Parkinson. That is very sad after his long and active life. In 'American Hotel' I met Eleonore. She was in a very bad health's state unfortunately. In the Leidsestraat I bought a red and an orange umbrella. At 18.30 I left a note for Ruth at the Dianetics Centre. I have to be careful for security reasons. In the train from Amsterdam to Utrecht I spoke with a little group of sympathetic persons from Australia (Melbourne again). In Utrecht I assisted the presentation of the new purple Ford Ka and unfolded the red umbrella. The British horoscope.

I note that under your patronate more than 249 million pounds have been raised during the last two years. You gave them life and now they are self supporting. Mr Grant is completely right, but first I have to do my duties tomorrow, because nobility obliges.

I was called by Mrs Anneke Heineken of FAI Home Security on behalf of Mr Paul Karis (former Director Linguarama Netherlands and Institute of English Studies) with the request to participate in a Crime Prevention Program. I agreed and will be visited tomorrow by someone of that company. I also received an open application from someone from Canterbury. I sent her the following fax message after having called her. Her English sounded fabulous.

"Dear Lady, From our office in Folkestone I received your letter of 4 July 1997 with your Curriculum Vitae. I thank you for your interest in my organization but unfortunately we can not give you a job as an interpreter in Russian. The activities to be started by my company will only enclose the Dutch, English and Spanish language. Nevertheless I will keep your information on file because you live in Canterbury. Tomorrow it will be exactly a year ago that I visited Canterbury Cathedral to Light there a candle. Perhaps in the future we might have a cup of coffee there or a glass of Champaign. In the meantime I would appreciate if you could give my regards to the archbishop."

I consider her Curriculum Vitae very impressive and I think she could be a very good ambassador of the organization towards Russia because of her contacts on ministerial level.

Friday, 1-08-1997
The first anniversary of my imperial mission to England. I will never forget that day on which my heart nearly broke down but I was saved by your people. I think of the historical visit to Canterbury, the protection of your security services and the Royal Air Force. The guidance of a British couple from Calais to Laleham, the campingsite with the orange flag where I was locked in by a red and yellow car from Spain. It was a James Bond-like situation. That produced a lot of stress of course. The day before I had sent four letters to four crown princes and refused to give my keys to someone else but Queen Elizabeth. That was the very new start that you appeared into my life. Cancer: 'Today it can cost you some trouble to do everything that you have planned. If you are unemployed and apply today, then do not try to draw out a conversation if the result is already clear'. It would be nice if you could speak with the Lady. She was born in Murmansk U.S.S.R. She has been a teacher. She uses her own business computer equipment. Macintosh as I do. She specialises in banking and finance, industrial and commercial, computing and information technology, legal and general technical texts, operating with English as the source language and Russian as the target language. She is able to travel throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. As interpreter she has experience in conference interpreting of wide ranging discussions between the Local Government International Bureau and Soviet representatives of ministerial rank. She participated in Central Independent Television's presentation of the British Film and Televison Festival in Kiev. She has been contracted to act as sole interpreter for Hewlett-Packard limited during the course of a series of unpublished discussions with high-ranking Russian officials, including senior ministers. In 1992 she was engaged as the Ukrainian ministerial delegation's interpreter at the UK-based conference on Public Employment Service organised under the auspices of the Department of Employment. She worked on a series of reports by Coopers & Lybrand. It's a good profile that she has.

Perhaps she could be a helping hand in building up the network in England. Scorpio: 'If you want to finish your work before the weekend or before you go on holiday you will have to work hard. There is a lot to do and you may not lose time. The judgement in a legal question still keeps you waiting for a while'. That's right. I have a lot of work to do today and the legal question is still in the hands of the District Court. I had a conversation with Professor Knol. He will start the negotiations in due course with Mr Jaap van Loon, general manager of ISW (activity of the Wolters-Kluwer Group, established in Geneva). From Inland Revenue I received enclosed letter: "Date: 29 July 1997. Our ref: 240/67551 27448/LW. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your letter dated 25 June 1997. I can confirm that your file has been made dormant and it will be reviewed in due course. Yours faithfully, L Waller." It was indeed a very busy day. The security man called that he can not come. He comes tomorrow. I sent fax messages to Mr Görtemöller and letters to NeBIB, Edelsa, SM, Intertaal and the President of the World Nature Fund. At the moment I have no energy left to translate them. So enclosed you find the copies of the originals. Aangehecht tref je mijn faxbericht aan aan Marina George d.d. 31 juli 1997 22.15 uur. Ans toonde gisteravond belangstelling om mee te gaan naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Het lijkt mij derhalve belangrijk dat Yoyo ook kennis draagt van alle brieven die ik je tot op heden heb gestuurd. In feite weet ik niet waar 'mijn partner' zich bevindt. Jos Buys vroeg mij vannacht tijdens de rit van Arnhem naar Nijmegen of ik een platonische relatie heb met Liesbeth. Zoiets moet het wel zijn. Ik weet niet wat ik er anders van moet maken buiten het 'zakelijke' om. Zij zal binnenkort ook uit haar schuilplaats te voorschijn moeten komen teneinde de neuzen in dezelfde richting te houden. Op dit moment wijzen ze weer naar Canterbury. Chris, een in Arnhem woonachtige jongedame uit Zuid-Limburg, is vooral geïnteresseerd in de Keltische middeleeuwen: The Lady of the Lake en King Arthur. In dat verband bevond zij zich in goed gezelschap. Met 'The Lady of the Lake' wordt in Schotland overigens 'Nessie' bedoeld, het monster van Loch Ness. Onze stad Nijmegen heb ik in een gesprek met Ros Halley in Schotland aangeduid als Swan Lake City in verband met Diana's dansoptreden in Covent Garden op de muziek van het Zwanenmeer van Tsjaikowski. Bij de 'ambtenaar in functie' denk ik uiteraard direct aan de heer Jan Wilzing. Hij is tegenwoordig hoofdcommissaris van politie van de regio IJsselland te Zwolle. Zo heb ik Bart vannacht nog laten weten dat de heer Wilzing mij in september 1996 - kort na Diana's bezoek aan de Wellenkamp, ik geloof dat het op 10 september 1996 was - heeft gezegd: "In het vervolg moet je niet meer zo hard rijden op de M25, John." Ik had daar op 1 augustus 1996 inderdaad harder gereden dan de toegestane 80 miles. Dit om mij door de veiligheidsagenten van Scotland Yard te laten registreren in hun apparatuur. De bekeuring mag worden afgetrokken van de rekening die de Nederlandse Regering nog aan de Stichting Cervantes Benelux is verschuldigd. Dit kun je aan Peter Ottenhoff laten weten voor het geval hij zich die situatie niet meer zou kunnen herinneren. Ik heb de heer Wilzing in die tijd namelijk ook om permanente bewaking van zijn woonhuis verzocht, in Houten. Dit ter aanvulling op The Cable Turtle of Purple (280 pagina's). Hierin vond ik ook nog een leuk gedicht:
